SVEN GUTJAHR – PORCELAIN
EXHIBITION NOVEMBER 2014
OPENING 14.11.2014 – 8PM
CLUB – BIEBRICHER STRASSE 14 – 12053 BERLIN
Sven Gutjahr, born in 1988 in Mainz, Germany is a Berlin based visual artist focusing on photography and video. Very often his works are referring to personal experiences and new encounters. His source of inspiration are fragile conditions of existence as well as grotesque and aesthetic moments of an emotional quality of which he is able to capture a deeper meaning of. Further on transforming conceptual and abstract ideas into vivid pictures and stubborn perspectives. He always tries to combine different techniques and disciplines to develop new ways of expression and self-discovery.
The portraits shown in the ‘PORCELAIN’ exhibition are a selection of a huge series of portrait photos building an army of neutral faces. The pictures were taken under infrared light which reveals a pure and reduced perception on the persons while erasing a lot of characteristic details of their skin. All models are photographed in Berlin and connected to its unique scene of electronic music.
We are uniformed. Our expression: lost. Our minds: frightened. Our lungs: empty. Scars: exformed. Roots: set to zero. Our skin: Shivering. Muscles: moving to patterns. Arms: wide open. Our body: full of love. Our minds: ready to receive.
